Commissioned Works:
Frequently Asked Questions
"I would like to commission a miniature neon sign or storefront. How do we get started?"
That's great! Many of our collectors will provide reference images to help things get started. Old Polaroids, matchbooks, postcards, anything you have is a great place to start. We are typically able to source other images from online archives to fill any reference gaps.
"How big/small will our commissioned piece be?"
Most of our commissioned work is in the 1:18-1:20 scale. For reference, a standard door in 1:20 scale is 4 inches tall. We can accommodate almost any size, however, the smaller the scale the more potential for loss of detail.
"Do the signs light up?"
We get asked this question A LOT! The "neon" elements in our work is made from picture framing wire, so, no our signs do not light up. There are options available, such as EL wire or fiber optic, but we have avoided using these as they do not float and hold shape the same as framing wire. Creating a high level of authenticity to real neon is a prime aspect to our work and framing wire is closest to the real thing. UV paint is another option, but this requires the piece to be displayed under a black light which can impact how the piece is displayed. We can, however, add power functions for mobile signage (Joe's Liquor and Bar).
"How long does it take?"
A typical wait time is approximately 3 months. The build time of your commission all depends on size and complexity. All of our work is 100 percent handmade with absolutely no 3D printing. As a result, the meticulous process of rendering these details by hand can be time consuming. We promise the wait is worth it.
"How much does it cost?"
Most of our commissions range between $500-$3,000 depending on the complexity and size. For more intense pieces, the cost may be more, but even smaller works will rarely be less than $500. All commissions require a 25% non-refundable deposit to hold your spot and get started. Once the estimated cost is agreed upon, payment details will be sent. The remaining balance is due upon receipt of your commission being complete.
